Take 3

The idea is to introduce pups slowly and not rush in .As if you do you can have problems . You may have heard of a gun shy dog this would 99% be the fact that it was not introduced slowly and then havingnoiseld buidling up . I write this blog as to us it is just every day life as I had posted a photo of Jack sat on a chair in the middle of some running water. The comment was "what a good idea". So you sit there and the pups, then realise that you are safe and so in turn they would be safe to follow. And with that thought in mind and also of getting a pat for their effort in they go. They may hesitate a bit at first as it is b .cold in the middle of a stream with fast running water in Springtime. But they get to like it ,think it is fun ,find that special stick or stone in the water and away they go. We know everyone is not as lucky to have access to water like we have so you have to be careful. Then out of the water a quick sprint down the wood and home all in time for dinner.

International Help

Recently we had a young helper here ,she was great with the puppies .Don't know who loved who the most. Ede has a  Brazilian mother and a father from Finland but has lived in China must of her life. She was out with these pups every spare minute she had. She would sit playing with them and in turn they can to be cuddled and then fall asleep. Never before have we seen such a sight . And I guess these puppies will understand instructions in more than one language as Ede spoke Portuguese,

Finnish,Chinese and very good English

Busy Bank holiday weekend

Bank Holidays are usually just busy places on the road but we were busy here too. Puppies to walk ,young dogs to train and the addition of a grand litter of Labrador pups the result of a lining between Rollo - Copperbirch Winnebego and Young Ab who is Leadburn Mabel's daughter. They both had a good season picking up at Rievaulx and now they have a litter of very content pups. We know 7 is not a large litter but would rather have them all ok . There was only one dog in the litter and the other 6 were bitches. 4 of them are already spoken for -we are keeping 2 ourselves and the other two will be home within England.

Looking around for lunch

Mabel's pups are now well on the way to being weaned . They know what is coming and happily nosing about, as they could smell it in the jug as I went in .Then it was tucking in time. Their sire Cuckavalda Bert is picking up at Newburgh Priory today while dam Leadburn Mabel is having some time to herself. We are really pleased with how these pups are developing and hopefully they will turn out as good as the pups that we had from the same lines last year

....and not a Yorkshire puddings in sight. The weeks are flying by and the pups are gradually getting on to solid foods and depending less on their mother.We like to get the pups fully weaned at 5 weeks old . They will be then be fed 5 times a day before they go to their new homes they will be done to 4 meals a day.

Tucking in...

Labrador puppies growing up so quickly are tucking into their dinners. They are now getting weaned and have small meals and often. By the time they are fully weaned they will be on 5 meals a day. They are also starting to wander out now when you go to them.They waddle out and got to the toilet before going back in to eat.They are very good at learning the house training lessons.The sire of them is Finn -Cuckavalda Bert and dam is first time mother- Leadburn Mabel. Her sire is FTCH Hillus Clyde and dam FTW Leadburn Tango. A non returnable deposit will secure a puppy.We are looking for loving permanent homes for these gorgeous pups

Loving the sunshine

It has been a long winter and now you can see it isn't just humans who enjoy relaxing in the sunshine. These pups were born just before Christmas.They are now enjoying half hour walks into the woods to develop their hunting instincts twice a day. The darkest red one with her eyes shut is the puppy we hand reared from bring a week old.Her mother had enough to do to rear the other 7 in the litter.She is as bright as a button and by 5 weeks old would go to the door to be let out to go- nearly house trained. It just shows the intelligence these pups have. The black girl is spoken for and going to her new home shortly.She was ordered on recommendation by someone who had bought one from us 3 years ago. Sindy,Nelly and Caz we are keeping .The bottom photo is of them having their afternoon siesta

2013 update

The shooting season has now finished and it is now time to get all those jobs done that there wasn't time to do during the last 6 months. We have Labrador puppies which were born just before Christmas and soon will be going to their new homes. The farthest afield this time so far is to Holland. They are doing well and despite the bad weather are raring to be out and about. They are now fully weaned. Due to back word we have couple now left.So if you had rung previously and we were not able to fix you up you might like to get in touch again
